Why Your Website’s Design is so Important

I totally get it - you’re a successful business owner & at the end of the day after serving clients and trying to grow you just don’t have the headspace to focus on tweaking or updating the website you set up “just to have something to send prospects”.

We all get busy - & honestly, since I became a business owner - it seems like there are fewer hours in the day to get everything done.

BUT don’t set that website on the back burner just yet - your website’s design, goals, and client journey (or lack of) might be costing you clients! :( Here’s why your website’s design is SO important!

#1 Awareness

Good website design brings your brand to life in digital form and increases recognition of your brand’s visual identity.

Therefore, the colors, imagery, and layout, should all reflect and be in keeping with the look of your brand. Exactly how strict you want to be with this rule is entirely up to you, but taking a joined-up approach to website design will benefit your business long term. Ask yourself, after visiting your website with no prior knowledge of the brand, would it leave a lasting impression? And what parts would you remember the most? If your answer is the consistency of branding, ease of navigation & truly speaking to your client’s wants/needs, then you’re on the right track.

#2 Navigation

Your website’s design should empower the user to confidently navigate your website with ease.

It enables the user to go on a journey, revealing the right information in the best order, creating an interactive experience that makes people want to return. The flow of your website is ultimately what leads the user to your brand’s primary call-to-action, with minimal clicks to keep people engaged and focused on the end goal. Design is a vital aspect of a user’s experience, whether that be a complicated and text-heavy webpage or a clear and simple one - this experience will determine your customer retention.

#3 Engagement

Design isn’t just about engaging a user’s eyes, it’s also about how it makes a user feel.

Activating your dream client’s emotions with your brand’s design will create a connection that is long-lasting. Good design has the power to make consumers feel happy, sad, calm, or alert - and takes into account the audience it is trying to attract. How does your website make people feel?

#4 Relevance

Just like anything else, design is constantly evolving. Whether you choose to stay up to date with the latest design trends or choose your own style - it’s important that your website always stays relevant.

This means doing regular maintenance on your site, to ensure the copy, images, and products, stay current. Websites with ‘Meet The Team’ pages, but all the team have left and been replaced by new staff, come across as out of date and result in a loss of credibility for your brand. Of course, this is the part where I throw in my LOVE for Squarespace (no surprise, I know) my clients are empowered and able to update their sites regularly because of the user-friendly back-end & the training videos I provide that are included in all of my web design projects - I am a firm believer that you should be able to maintain every piece of your business without having to outsource.
