Answered: Your Most Burning Questions About SQUARESPACE WEB DESIGN

As a Squarespace Expert Designer, I get a lot of questions about Squarespace. I've been collecting some common ones, and today I'm going to give you the answers that you've been dying to know!

But before we jump into all that, let's make sure everyone is on the same page. We'll start with the most pressing question for all my newbies out there: What is Squarespace?

Simply put, Squarespace is a website builder. However, it's so much more than just that. Squarespace is a user-friendly, all-in-one option with everything you need to create a professional website – no outside hosting, coding, or web development experience required. If your small business needs a website, it's a fantastic option with the ability to meet your unique needs.

With that in mind, here are 11 FAQs about Squarespace:

  1. Is Squarespace for me?

Squarespace is an excellent choice for most small businesses. If you:

  • Want incredible templates, a variety of features, and responsive designs

  • Are mildly tech savvy (Are you comfortable in Microsoft Word? That's about the right level.)

  • Are looking for an all-in-one tool and don't want to worry about extensions and plug-ins

Then Squarespace is the right choice for you.

For businesses that need separate hosting (most small businesses don't) or more customization or features than Squarespace offers, there may be a better option out there.

2. Can I switch to Squarespace if I use a different website designer?

Absolutely! Pages, blog posts, products, and podcasts, can be imported from specific platforms. And you can copy and paste the content that you can't import. Squarespace has more information in their Help Center to make your move as seamless as possible.

3. Can I use a custom domain?

Squarespace allows you to create a domain when you sign up. You can also bring your custom domain if you have one.

4. What can I use Squarespace for?

This is a loaded question because Squarespace has so many features! Here's a list to give you an idea of what you have to look forward to:

  • E-commerce: Everything you need for your online store.

  • Scheduling: Easy appointment managing that keeps working even when you're offline.

  • Marketing Tools: Social Media, Email Campaigns, Built-in SEO Tools

  • Blogging

  • Podcasts

  • Membership Area

  • Portfolio

  • And More…

5. Can I build my own Squarespace website, or do I need to hire a designer?

Squarespace is great for DIY websites. They have many tools to make creating your website simple. There's a bit of a learning curve, and you will need some tech skills, but if you're confident in programs like Microsoft Word, you'll do just fine.

Hiring a Squarespace designer is also a great option. A designer has in-depth knowledge of everything Squarespace can do, so you can maximize the features that it has to offer. A designer is a perfect option if you're ready to jump in immediately. They will design a beautiful, organized website that tells your story and converts your customers.

6. Can I use a template with Squarespace?

Definitely, and Squarespace has standard templates available for everything. For a more custom option to represent your brand, check out my Squarespace Templates. They are fully optimized and include everything you need to avoid missing any key features!

7. How long does it take to build my site?

Build times differ for everyone. For DIY websites, it's a combination of how fast you can work and the complexity of your website.

My professional website builds have a 2-week turnaround, including a one-on-one session, the design, the build, and the launch and training. For smaller (still fully custom) builds I offer website-in-a-day packages.

8. Can I use Google Analytics with Squarespace?

Yes. Squarespace also offers a built-in analytics system that conveniently integrates with your website.

9. Does Squarespace allow add-ons and features like forms, pop-ups, schedules, maps, and chat boxes?

Yep, all of those and more. You'll have so many options you won't know what to do with them all! Plus, you can add just a little bit of custom CSS code to make unique changes to your website.

10. Does Squarespace offer a mobile-friendly option?

This is one of the best things about Squarespace! All of their designs are responsive, meaning they adjust to the device of the person who is viewing it. That means that your website will maintain the same style and look amazing on every device it's viewed on.

11. How do I get started?

You can sign up for a free 14-day trial on the Squarespace website and test it out to see if the features are a good match for your business.
