18 Ways to Improve Your Squarespace Website
Squarespace is an excellent platform for creating beautiful and professional websites. This blog post will discuss 18 ways to improve your Squarespace Web Design. We will cover everything from adding a custom favicon to password-protecting private pages. So whether you are just getting started with Squarespace or have been using it for a while, there are sure to be some tips you can use!
TIP 1: Customize Your Favicon: The favicon is the small icon on the browser tab when someone visits your website. By default, Squarespace Web Design uses a generic favicon (the little black box). But you can easily change this by going to the Design section of your website's settings and uploading a custom favicon to the browser icon section.
TIP 2: Use Spacers to Give Breathing Room: One of the benefits of using Squarespace for your website is that it automatically creates spacing between elements on your pages. Add a spacer (an empty block that makes more room between content) to create more space.
TIP 3: Include Call-To-Action on Each Page: A call-to-action (CTA) text or button encourages visitors to take some desired action. For example, a CTA could be a button that says "Buy Now" or "Sign Up." CTAs are important because they help guide visitors to take the actions you want them to take on your website. (Your main site goal!)
TIP 4: Simplify Navigation: One of the most important aspects of website design is navigation. Navigation should be simple and easy to understand so visitors can easily find their way around your site. We recommend limiting your top navigation bar to 3-5 main links. If you need more, just add a dropdown menu.
TIP 5: Customize 404 Page: The 404 page is the page visitors will see if they try to visit a URL on your website that doesn't exist. By default, Squarespace displays a generic 404 page. But you can easily change this by going to the "Design" section of your website's settings and clicking on the "404 Error Page" dropdown menu. It may seem small, but it's a little thing that adds a lot to your site. You can customize a page from scratch or choose another page on your site to redirect to.
TIP 6: Password Protect Private Pages: If you have pages on your website that you only want certain people to access, you can password-protect them from page settings. Also - don’t forget to customize your lock screen!
TIP 7: Customize Your Site Description: The site description is the text that appears under your website's title in the search results. Don't leave this up to chance! This is a great place to let your customers or clients know exactly what to expect.
TIP 8: Customize Your Social Image: Set a custom social image on every site page. It's easy to do! Simply navigate to page settings>'Social Image' and upload a design.
TIP 9: Customize the Author on Your Blog Posts: If you have a blog on your website, you can customize the author that appears on your blog posts. Invite them as a Contributor or Basic Author, depending on the permissions they need. Once they confirm the invitation, you'll be able to change their author profile, which will appear automatically with every post they create.
TIP 10: Create Images in Canva: Canva is a free online design platform that makes it easy to create beautiful images for your website. To create an image in Canva, simply go to their website and sign up for an account. Then, click on the "Create a Design" button and choose from one of their many templates or start from scratch.
TIP 11: Add Text Links Using CTRL+K/Command+K: You can easily add text links to your website by using the CTRL+K (PC) or Command+K (Mac) keyboard shortcut. Simply select the text you want to turn into a link and then press CTRL+K or Command+K.
TIP 12: Create a Pop-Up: Pop-ups are small windows that appear when someone visits your website. You can use them to display important information or collect leads and generate new subscribers. This is a great space to feature a freebie and call-to-action.
TIP 13: Follow the SEO Checklist: The SEO checklist is a list of things you can do to make sure you've optimized your Squarespace site for search engines. To access the checklist, go to this link: https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002090267-SEO-checklist
TIP 14: Customize CSS: CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is a code that controls the style and layout of your website. While it can seem daunting, it gives you a whole world of customizations once you get the hang of it. You can use CSS to customize the look of your website and make it unique.
TIP 15: Google Analytics: Google Analytics is a free tool that allows you to track the traffic to your website that is already integrated into your Squarespace website. Create an account and connect it to your site for detailed information about your site visitors to help you market more effectively.
TIP 16: Add to the "Related Posts": The related blog posts feature is a way to automatically suggest other blog posts that might be of interest to readers after they finish reading a post. This is great for keeping your audience engaged with your content.
TIP 17: Remove Footers and Headers on landing pages: Footers and headers appear at the bottom or top of your website. You can display your contact information, social media links, and other information. Unfortunately, these often add clutter to your landing page, so removing them is a great idea & only takes a few lines of CSS code.
TIP 18: Choose a Simple but Well-Thought-Out Color Palette: With all the beautiful colors available, it can be tempting to throw together anything that looks good. To keep things simple and streamlined, opt for just a few main colors. Use a tool like Coolors, Colormind, Adobe Color, or Paletton to view pre-made palettes and create custom ones.
